Anthony J. ALDAVE, MD
Dr. Abhay R. Vasavada is the director of Raghudeep Eye Clinic & Iladevi Cataract & IOL Research Centre. Having completed his FRCS from the Royal college of England, he has always had a passion for providing the highest level of eye care and simultaneously for contributing to the development of ophthalmology. In 1984, he established REC.

Today, it is the result of his vision & perseverance that REC is a 120 strong organization that provides tertiary level ophthalmic services. He established Iladevi Cataract & Intra Ocular Lens Research Centre in 1991 devoted exclusively to cataract research in general and to congenital cataract in particular.

Dr. Vasavada is the recipient of several prestigious national and international awards, chief among them being the Binkhorst Medal Lecture awarded by the American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons (ASCRS) in 2011.

He has been responsible for successfully training more than 150 ophthalmologists in cataract surgery and inspiring them towards research.

He was selected as one of the “Top Fifty Opinion Leaders” in the world for his Outstanding Contribution and Leadership in the field of cataract surgery, in a survey conducted in 2005 by the Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery.
Anthony J. Aldave, MD, received his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. He performed his residency training in ophthalmology at the Wills Eye Hospital, Thomas Jefferson University, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Aldave then completed a two‐year Cornea, Uveitis and Refractive Surgery Fellowship at The University of California, San Francisco/ Francis I. Proctor Foundation.

He joined the Jules Stein Eye Institute in July 2002 as a full‐time member of the Cornea and Refractive Surgery Services. Dr. Aldave is currently an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology, is the Director of the Cornea Service, and serves as Director of the Cornea and Refractive Surgery Fellowship Program.

Dr. Aldave has received numerous honors during his career, including the Alpha Omega Alpha Scholarship Award for graduating first in his medical school class, the Heed Ophthalmic Foundation Fellowship, the American Ophthalmological Society‐Knapp Testimonial Fund Fellowship, the first Claes Dohlman Society Award, and the Achievement and Secretariat Awards from the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

Dr.akahoshi is a world-famous doctor who designed a new method in cataract surgery which is called “Pre-chop method”. Besides being as a chairman of Ophthalmology Department at Mitsui Memorial Hospital, he also educates at four foreign universities as a guest professor. He gives academic lectures and open operation about cataract surgery in sixty-four countries till now. Currently, he goes abroad for the invitation from foreign academic conferences almost every month. Inspite of his hard works, he operates cataract surgeries more than eight thousand for a year. Some patients come to our clinic from foreign country to undergo his cataract surgery

Dr Fam Han Bor is active as a clinician, researcher and instructor, having given over 100 presentations in international and regional conferences. His research has been published in leading peer-reviewed ophthalmology journals such as the Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery, the Journal of Refractive Surgery, the American Journal of Ophthalmology and the British Journal of Ophthalmology. As an educator, he has conducted numerous LASIK instructional courses, medical-in-service and live surgeries throughout Asia. He is widely sought after as a respected global key-opinion leader in the field of phacoemulsification, intraocular lens design, refractive surgery, corneal topography, ocular wavefront aberrations and visual optics. He has a keen interest in the design and optimising of new phacoemulsification and intraocular lens technologies. He is an active member of the prestigious IOL Power Club, an export group dedicated to improving cataract outcomes.

His research interests lie in Visual Optics, Wavefront Science, IOP Calculations, Corneal Topography, Contact Lens and Eye Modeling and Biofilms.

He graduated from the National University of Singapore, with a Masters in Medicine (Ophthalmology) and was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore. He received his subspecialty training in cornea and refractive surgery at the University of British Columbia, Canada.

Dr. Codriansky assisted to the Pontificia Universidad Católica of Chile where he completed his Medical school training as well as his Ophthalmology residency program. After that he went through a 2 year anterior segment fellow focused on Cornea and surface diseases, Cataract and Refractive surgery. He si currently performing an International Fellowship program at UCLA under the tutelage of Dr. Antony Aldave



Cesar Espiritu, MD

Cesar ESPIRITU, MD

Dr. Espiritu practices at the Associated Eye Specialists, the American Eye Center and serves as vice-chairman of the Manila Doctors Hospital ophthalmology department. He earned his degree as Doctor of Medicine at the University of the Philippines and obtained his ophthalmology training from the University of the Philippines - Philippine General Hospital. He completed a fellowship in cornea, uveitis and infectious diseases at the Francis I. Proctor Foundation, University of California in San Francisco. Dr. Espiritu is a founding member of the Philippine Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the Philippine Ocular Inflammation Society and the Cornea Club of the Philippines of which he serves as current president. He is also a member of the board of examiners of the Philippine Board of Ophthalmology, the course director of the Center for Ophthalmic Microsurgical Skills Advancement, and the chief of service of the cataract section of the department of ophthalmology of The Medical City Hospital.

Olivia L. Lee, MD

Olivia L. LEE, MD

Dr. Olivia Lee is a specialist in both corneal diseases and uveitis. Her dual expertise enables her to offer immunosuppression for inflammatory eye disease and complex anterior segment surgery in uveitic eyes. She performs corneal surgeries such as DSAEK, DMEK, DALK, keratoprosthesis, ocular surface reconstruction and limbal stem cell transplantation.

In addition, Dr. Lee’s research focuses on the use of anterior segment imaging for diagnosis and monitoring of eye disease.


Prin Rojanapongpun, MD

Prin Rojanapongpun is Associate Professor and Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at Chulalongkorn University and Hospital. He serves as Chief glaucoma consultant to the Queen Sirikit National Institute of Child Health, ministry of public health. He is also a consultant at Bumrungrad International and Sukumvit Hospital Eye Care Center in Bangkok, Thailand.

Dr. Rojanapongpun holds senior positions in several professional ophthalmology societies. He is the president of the Asian Angle Closure Glaucoma Club (AACGC), immediate past president of South East Asia Glaucoma Interest Group (SEAGIG), executive board of the Asia Pacific Glaucoma Society (APGS), council and chair of the Advocacy committee of the Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO), executive board of Asia Pacific Association of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (APACRS), executive board of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists of Thailand, and an advisory board to the International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO). He also serves as chair, committee and consultant to many other national and supranational societies.

Dr. Rojanapongpun is a distinguished glaucoma and cataract lecturer. He was invited to teach and lecture in 17 countries in Asia and another 18 countries in America, Europe, Africa and Australia (where several countries were visited several times). He delivered more than 350 lectures at national and international congresses. He performed live surgery in 7 countries and trained many surgeons to perform both cataract and glaucoma surgery. Dr. Rojanapongpun has current major research interests include angle closure glaucoma, the epidemiology and diagnosis of glaucoma, as well as the medical and surgical management of patients with glaucoma.

Dr Ronald Yeoh is Medical Director, Founding Partner & Senior Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Eye & Retina Surgeons, Camden Medical Centre.

For his many contributions to ophthalmology, Dr Yeoh has received numerous awards for his efforts. They include the Distinguished Contribution to Ophthalmology Award, International Council of Ophthalmology, 1990; the Distinguished Service Award, Asia- Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology, 1995; Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS), Edinburgh for services to ophthalmology in Asia, 1996; the Singapore National Eye Centre Service Award, 1997; Member of Merit, Instituto Barraquer, Barcelona, Spain, 1999; and the ACE Award (APACRS Certified Educator), 2002. The award he is proudest of is the one that his students at the Singapore National Eye Centre(SNEC) voted for: Best Teacher Award from the SNEC in 2000.

He has delivered two international named lectures; The Keshmahinder Singh Oration in Kuala Lumpur in 2002 and the Lim Lecture in Beijing at the 18th Asia-Pacific Association of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons Meeting, 2005.

Dr Yeoh completed his Surgical Vitreoretinal Fellowship at the world renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital (London). He provides expertise in the three main disciplines of retina disease, simple and complex cataracts and refractive surgery.

Referano Agustiawan, MD is a full-timer ophthalmologist at the Jakarta Eye Center. His field of specialisation is in vitreoretinal diseases. Dr Referano completed his basic medical education from Medical faculty Brawijaya University in Malang, Indonesia in 2000. He then did post graduation in ophthalmology from University of Indonesia, Jakarta, Indonesia. During the period 2004 to 2005, he was continuously involved in ophthalmology care of patients in community eye health center in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara Indonesia and performed various ocular surgeries, and high volume cataract surgeries. He spent a year as international fellow in vitreoretinal surgery at Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital, Mumbai, India in 2008-2009.He is currently the Medical Director of Jakarta Eye Center @ Menteng.

His clinical work includes both medical and surgical retinal diseases, with a large content of age-related macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease (including complex macular oedema and advanced proliferative diabetic retinopathy), retinal vascular disorders, retinal detachment including complex proliferative vitreoretinopathy and giant tears, and macular surgery including macular holes and epiretinalmemberanes. His practice also includes general ophthalmologic problems, cataract, retinopathy of prematurity and ocular trauma. Dr Referano is involved in teaching and training of Fellows in vitreoretinal specialty for local and international ophthalmologist in Jakarta Eye Center. He is also invited as speaker in many scientific ophthalmology forum in Indonesia. His area of interest for research is in Cataract, Vitreoretinal Surgery, and clinical retina.

Budiman, MD is the Consultant and Head of the Cataract and Refractive Surgery Service at Cicendo National Eye Center and Bandung Eye Center. He graduated from Padjadjaran University, Indonesia with the degree of Masters in Medicine. He is now studying in Doctoral Program at the same University as he used to be with his research that is concerned about cataract and myopia genetic. He is also President Director of Bandung Eye Center and President of Indonesian Ophthalmologist Association (PERDAMI) West Java Chapter.

He is active as a clinician, instructor and lecturer at Faculty of Medicine, Padjadjaran University, Indonesia. As an educator, he has conducted numerous instructional courses in cataract and

DR. Tjahjono D. Gondhowiardjo, PhD has been practising in Jakarta Eye Center since 1992; after completing his PhD program from University of Amsterdam. His clinical expertise in corneal problems were derived from Prof. Gabriel van Rij, and Prof. Hennie Volker-Dieben, the two best corneal surgeons in the Netherlands in that era.

He play the main role in the development and progress of the Indonesian Ophthalmology within the last decade. He started as the Head of the Department of Ophthalmology University of Indonesia/Cipto Mangunkusumo National Hospital (1997-2004). President of the Indonesian Ophthalmologist Society (2003-2010); Chairman Indonesian Committee of Prevention of Blindness (2004-2007) and Vice Chairman/Acting Chairman Indonesian Eye Bank (2005-2010). He also served as the Congress President of the 2009 Asia Pacific Academy of Opthalmology (APAO) and American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) Joint Congress; and Asian Coordinator for Education in 2009-2011. His role was recognized by the APAO Arthur Liem Award for leadership in 2010.

His current position are Chairman of the Indonesian College of Ophthalmology (2010), and the Indonesian Eye Bank (2011). Vice President of the APAO (2010-2012), as well as the Convenor of the APAO Leaderships Development Program; and Executive Secretary of the ASEAN Association of Eye Hospital (AAEH – 2011). Moreover, he is a life member of the Indonesian Academy of Sciences (2008).

Ferdiriva Hamzah, MD is a full-timer Ophthalmologist at Jakarta Eye Center. He graduated from medical school in Medan in 2002 and continued his study as an Ophthalmologist at University of Indonesia. After being an Ophthalmologist, he joined training in India and became a cataract and LASIK surgeon, including LASIK with microkeratome, Femtosecond LASIK, and Epi-LASIK since 2008. He is often invited to be a guest speaker in health-themed events on mass and digital media.

Johan A. Hutauruk, MD, is a consultant ophthalmologist and Director of the Jakarta Eye Center at central Jakarta, a private eye hospital in Indonesia with several locations in Jakarta and Indonesia.
 
Dr. Hutauruk is presently the President of INASCRS, the Indonesian Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, has participated in many live surgeries, teaching courses, lectures and actively involve as scientific committee for the Indonesian Ophthalmologist Annual Meeting.  In recognition of his contributions to organize more than 10,000 free cataract surgeries per year since 2002, the Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology awarded him the APAO Distinguished Service Award during the 2008 APAO and World Ophthalmology Congress in Hong Kong.
 
He is amongst the first to introduce proven surgical techniques in the field of cataract and refractive surgery in Indonesia and shared his experiences to Indonesian colleagues, endothelial keratoplasty (DSAEK), Implantable Contact Lens (ICL), Boston Keratoprosthesis, Corneal Tattoo, accommodative intraocular lens, DALK, etc.
 
Dr. Hutauruk also member of the advisory board for Indonesian Ophthalmologist Association Annual Meeting for a consecutive 10 years, mainly responsible for the scientific contents, as well as the council member for the Asia Pacific Association of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (APACRS).  and currently as the editorial member for the EyeWorld Asia Pacific.

Dr Hadi Prakoso is a Senior Consultant Surgeon for Cataract-Refractive and Strabismus Surgery in Klinik Mata Nusantara – Indonesia. He was graduated as an ophthalmologist in 1989 from the University of Indonesia, and joined a fellowship training in Strabismus and Oculoplastic Surgery at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital – The University of Melbourne, Melbourne – Australia, in 1995-1996.

Early 1997, Dr Hadi Prakoso started to learn Phaco and Lasik by himself. His passion to phaco and refractive surgery brings him to an endless effort to improve his skill and to master various surgical techniques, which leads him to be one of the most well known surgeons in the region.

Dr Hadi Prakoso had delivered numerous lectures and courses in various national and international meetings such as APAO and WOC in Asia Pacific and Europe. He had performed live surgery on phacoemulsification surgery in international meetings in Indonesia, India and Australia.

He had also had conducted instructional course and wet lab on Artisan Phakic IOL in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore in 2006. And since 2007, he had been assigned as a certified international trainer for Visx Custom VueLasik.
His enormous experiences in implanting over than 750 premium IOLs (both Toric and Multifocus) in the last 4 years put him as a respectable premium surgeon in Indonesia.

Darwan M. Purba, MD is a co-founder of Jakarta Eye Center in 1984 and currently the President Director of Jakarta Eye Center Corporate (PT. Nitrasanata Dharma) and also served as Hospital Director of the newly build Jakarta Eye Center @ Kedoya, West Jakarta, a JCI Accredited Eye Hospital and one of the largest and well equipped Eye Hospital in Indonesia. Dr. Purba completed his fellowship in the Management of Vitreoretinal Diseases at the Schepens Eye Research Institute, Boston, USA and attended Phacoemulsification Course with Dr. Charles Kelman, New York, USA. He is also one of the pioneers in modern Vitreoretina Surgery and Phacoemulsification in Indonesia. Dr. Purba presented many scientific presentations nationally and internationally. He received the Indonesian Ophthalmologist Association Award (2003), Distinguished Service Award of The Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (2009), and Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Award as an Outstanding Entrepreneur of 2009. Dr. Purba is a co-founder of the ASEAN Association of Eye Hospitals (AAEH) on 2004 and served as AAEH President of 2011 – 2013.
